Our story begins with our founder, Gasica.

Gasica’s path to founding Zanzibar Learning 4 Life Foundation (ZL4LF) is rooted in overcoming the challenges faced by many young people in Zanzibar, a culturally rich archipelago in East Africa known for its history of resilience and vibrant community spirit.. In Tanzania, where English is the language of education beyond Grade 6, students often struggle due to limited resources and poorly trained teachers.

Gasica was one such student who failed his exams, was expelled from home, and had to find his own way. Determined to succeed, he learned English with the help of a mentor and began teaching others, recognising that mastering the language was the key to unlocking opportunities.

In 2006, Gasica turned his personal mission into ZL4LF, an NGO that empowers youth to achieve what seems impossible. What began as informal lessons to several people in a small room of his house has quickly grown, with over 350 students currently benefiting from Gasica’s initiatives. ZL4LF offers courses in English, German, IT, and life skills such as work readiness to prepare students for a brighter future. The education centre doubles as a home for 13 young people, providing not only knowledge but also a safe place to grow.

The foundation also includes innovative projects like the Heroes Community Academy for primary education, the Gasicare school for children with special needs, and social enterprises such as a bike shop, which provide practical training and financial support for ZL4LF’s mission. Driven by community support and international partnerships, ZL4LF transforms lives, helping youth break barriers and create a future filled with opportunity and hope..
